Quick Start: Portable TENS Unit

  1. Charge the unit before first use.
  2. With the unit switched off, connect the lead wires to the device and electrode pads.
  3. Place pads on clean, dry, intact skin near the area being treated. Keep pads separated.
  4. Select TENS mode for sensory nerve stimulation or EMS mode for controlled muscle contractions.
  5. Start at the lowest intensity and increase gradually until the sensation is strong but comfortable, never painful.
  6. Switch the unit off before moving or removing pads.

Read the TENS unit pad placement guide for general placement principles.

TENS vs EMS

  • TENS: Usually produces tingling without visible muscle contraction and is commonly used as part of a pain-management plan.
  • EMS: Produces visible muscle contractions and is used for muscle activation or recovery under appropriate guidance.

See the complete TENS vs EMS comparison.

Dual-Channel Setup

Channels A and B have independent intensity controls. Connect one lead wire to each channel and adjust each side separately. Do not place electrodes so electrical current passes across your chest.

Electrode Pad Care

  • Apply pads only to clean, dry skin without lotion or oil.
  • Handle pads by the edge and avoid touching the gel.
  • Return pads to the original plastic backing after each session.
  • Replace pads that are dry, damaged, lifting from the skin or causing uneven stimulation.

Lead Wire Troubleshooting

If stimulation cuts in and out, switch the device off and inspect both ends of the lead wire. Confirm that the wire is fully inserted and that the pad has even skin contact. Replace a wire that is kinked, cracked or producing intermittent output.

Common Problems

No sensation

  • Confirm the battery is charged.
  • Check that all wires and pads are fully connected.
  • Make sure pads are adhering evenly to clean, dry skin.
  • Try another pair of pads or lead wires.

Stimulation feels sharp or uncomfortable

  • Switch the device off.
  • Check for lifted, dry or damaged pads.
  • Move pads slightly while keeping them near the intended area.
  • Restart at the lowest intensity.

Skin irritation

Stop use and remove the pads. Do not reapply them to irritated skin. If irritation persists, ask a healthcare professional for advice.

Safety Reminders

  • Do not use on the front or sides of the neck, head, mouth, eyes, genitals, broken or numb skin.
  • Do not place pads on the chest and upper back at the same time or otherwise direct current across the chest.
  • Do not use while sleeping, bathing, driving or operating machinery.
  • Ask a healthcare professional before use if you are pregnant, have a pacemaker or implanted electronic device, epilepsy, heart disease, cancer, circulation problems or reduced sensation.
