Start With the Recovery Basics
After exercise, cool down, replace fluids as appropriate, eat adequately and allow time for sleep and recovery. In hot weather, move to a cooler place and pay attention to dizziness, confusion, fainting, headache, vomiting or unusually hot skin. Those symptoms can signal heat illness and need prompt action; an electrical stimulation device is not an appropriate response.
How to Use TENS Conservatively After a Workout
- Wait until you have cooled down and the skin is clean, dry and intact.
- Inspect the painful area. Do not use stimulation to push through severe, unexplained or worsening pain.

When Not to Mask the Symptoms
- Sudden severe pain, a pop, deformity or inability to bear weight
- Weakness, spreading numbness or loss of coordination
